What is it?
The Alex2 test is the largest allergen panel on the market, used to obtain an accurate and complete picture of a patient’s sensitisations, including potential cross-reactions (CCD).
It allows simultaneous analysis of up to 300 allergens; 117 allergen extracts and 178 molecular allergens, in addition to 60 allergens unique to the Alex2 test.
- Molecular extracts: the test uses allergen extracts when molecular allergens are not well characterised or are redundant due to a high degree of cross-reactivity.
- Molecular allergens: used when allergen extracts are described as unstable. A more accurate risk assessment is achieved.
The combination of both ensures an accurate profile of the patient’s sensitisation status.
What technique do we use?
It is a multiplex test, meaning that from a single blood sample it simultaneously detects IgE to multiple allergen extracts and molecular allergens in a single assay.
Multiplex tests provide the most complete and reliable picture possible of a patient’s sensitization profile, whereas singleplex tests can leave gaps and empty spaces that make the picture incomplete.
Benefits of the Alex2 test
- Avoids the need for invasive skin testing.
- No need to stop anti-allergy medication.
- Complete picture of the patient’s sensitization status.
- Prevents the occurrence of cross-reactions (CCD).
- Covers almost 100% of globally relevant allergens in a single assay.
- Molecular allergens allow specific IgE to be determined against a multitude of allergens.
Who is it for?
- Patients with rhinitis, conjunctivitis and/or asthma, atopic dermatitis, urticaria.
- People allergic to food, inhalants (pollen, mites, epithelia, fungi), latex, hymenoptera venom.
- People who have experienced anaphylaxis(s) and do not know the cause.
