GIFT – Genetic study of celiac disease

65,00

Genetic test that determines the presence of the HLA DQ2 and DQ8 alleles to detect celiac disease (gluten intolerance).

What is celiac disease?

Celiac disease is a permanent intolerance to gluten, which is found in the seeds of cereals such as wheat, barley, oats and rye, among others.

The European Society of Gastroenterology defines celiac disease (CD) or celiac disease as an autoimmune disease characterized by gluten intolerance.

What is an autoimmune disease?

Autoimmune diseases occur when our immune system, which is normally responsible for defending us against infectious agents, reacts with its own cells.

In the case of celiac disease, with the ingestion of gluten, autoantibodies are produced that act in the intestine and cause atrophy of the intestinal villi, malabsorption and malnutrition.

Recommended study for:

Ο Diagnose
In patients with inconclusive serological tests and clinical suspicion.
In symptomatic patients with normal serology and biopsies.

Ο Genetic inheritance
Study first-degree relatives of a celiac person (parents, siblings and children), in order to know the genetic susceptibility.

Ο Risk groups
Asymptomatic people who suffer from diseases associated with celiac disease, such as diabetes mellitus, thyroiditis, dermatitis herpetiformis, among others.
